Hand-carved wall mask with sese wood from Ghana
In the Sixth century BC, during the captivity of the Jews in Babylon,
the Babylonian King commanded all Jews not to pray to their God but
the prophet Daniel continued to pray to his God against the command
of the King. As a result, Daniel was thrown into a lions' den to be devoured,
But God sent an angel to protect him, and he emerged miraculously
unharmed the next day.
Artisan Sweet carved this sculpture with sese wood and named it
"daniel in the lion'sden" to illustrate how God protects His folowers in an
impossibly hostile situation.
